Pantone’s biggest announcement of the year is here! Introducing the Color of the Year for 2020: Classic Blue, a timeless and enduring blue hue that is elegant in its simplicity. 

Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the choice of colour for 2020 contains reassuring qualities that highlight our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into the new decade.

Classic Blue was chosen for its ability to bring a sense of peace and tranquillity to the human spirit, offering refuge and re-centring our thoughts in our hectic modern lives.

For over 20 years Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in a variety of industries, including fashion, home furnishings and industrial design, as well as product and packaging design.

How the Color of the Year is chosen

Pantone Color of the Year 2020

To arrive at the chosen colour each year, Pantone’s colour experts and the Pantone Color Institute search the world for new colour influences. This can include the entertainment industry and films in production, travelling art collections and new artists, fashion, design, popular travel destinations and more. Influences can also stem from new technologies, environmental issues (2019 Color of the Year- Living Coral), relevant social media platforms, materials, textures, and even upcoming sporting events.
