It’s that time of year again… the time when Pantone announces their Color of the Year and settles any speculations over the choice of colour for the next 12 months! Their colour for 2019 is Living Coral; an animating and life-affirming coral hue that embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort in our continually shifting environment.
Following last year’s Ultra Violet, a dramatic and deep shade associated with mystical and spiritual qualities, Living Coral takes a turn in the opposite direction, instead focusing on environmental preservation, and particularly the beauty we see in nature such as coral reefs. Lying at the centre of our naturally vivid and chromatic ecosystem, Pantone Living Coral is evocative of how the coral reef provide shelter to a diverse display of colour.
“Color enhances and influences the way we experience life.” Said Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. “As a shade that affirms life through a dual role of energising and nourishing, PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral reinforces how colours can embody our collective experience and reflect what is taking place in our global culture at a moment in time.”
In reaction to the onslaught of digital technology and social media increasingly embedding into daily life, we are constantly seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy, therefore the engaging nature of PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral welcomes humanising and engaging activity, symbolising our desire for playful expression.
Pantone’s choice of colour will influence product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries for 2019, including fashion, home furnishings, industrial design, as well as product, packaging and graphic design!
