RAL - The Colour Dictionary

‘Envy is green’ and ‘love is red’ – we all use colour associations, but can a phrase be expressed by one colour alone? Explore the colour of words with The Colour Dictionary, an indispensable design tool for interior designers, advertisers, designers, painters and those who are fascinated by colour theory.

The book is based on a study by Alex Venn, Professor of Colour Design, who undertook a scientific study with 60 participants who produced mood boards linking colours to words such as comfortable to uneasy and from trendy to archaic.

For each of the 360 adjectives in the book, 49 colour images are displayed with their respective colour scale in the RAL Design System colours. This colour dictionary enables you to think outside the box to make colour statements, giving you room to play with not 1 but 49 colours for each phrase.

  • 360 adjectives expressed in 49 colour compositions
  • Displayed in RAL Design system colours
  • 864 pages
  • Hardcover (24 x 26 cm)
  • Bilingual: German/English
  • Large poster included
